Liss Bruno tops inaugural IAAA Extravanganza

It was a weekend to remember at the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association’s extravaganza show and sale, with nine month old Liss Bruno Y120 topping the sale at €10,500. Bruno is homebred on both sides. He is sired by Liss Dingle V936, who also triumphed at the Tullamore Show, taking first place in the intermediate bull class. His dam, Liss Biluri V852, no stranger to success herself, having claimed the championship at this year’s Mohill Show and her first calf Liss Bullseye X028 topping the Association’s Spring Premier in Nenagh earlier this year. Ranking five stars in most traits, Liss Bruno Y120 caught the attention of AI company, Dovea Genetics. His sale price marks the highest amount for an Angus male at auction in Ireland in almost 20 years!

As part of the sale, the Liss herd had a draft of a select group of nine heifers. These heifers reached a top price of €6,000, with eight out of the nine averaging over €4,000. Leading the lineup was Liss Minree X043, a five-star heifer purchased by Cathy O’Hara from Northern Ireland. Sired by Cairnton Killimanjaro U435, she hails from the award-winning Minree family, which has been recognized as the best cow family in the Connaught Leinster herds competition for the past three years.

Another highlight of the draft was Liss Duchess W019, which sold for €5,200 to John Brady’s Lisnafanna herd in Co. Cavan. This stylish, coming two year old heifer is a maternal sister to Liss Dingle V936, the sire of Liss Bruno Y120.

We would like to thank the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association, auctioneer Dennis Barrret and all the sponsors for the running of the event. We wish all the purchasers the very best of luck with their cattle.
